Job Description:
 

Objective:
 To provide production medicine and troubleshooting services to a group of dairy farms in Western Michigan. The job includes records analysis to identify opportunities for improvement, troubleshooting animal health or production problems as they arise, supervising animal welfare programs, helping producers meet requirements for third party audits, training employees, assisting with safety programs, and interacting with local practitioners and nutritionists. Little emergency work or palpation is expected, although you would be training employees in those areas. These dairies are also involved in embryo transfer and IVF programs. 
Training Required:
 DVM, Michigan license or eligibility for MI license. 
Experience Desired:
 At least 2 years' experience in a practice that works with large dairies, or 2 years' experience in working directly for a large dairy farm (500 cows or more). Familiarity with Dairycomp 305, feed programs, is highly desired. Ability to communicate in Spanish desirable but not required. Understanding of dairy nutrition and embryo transfer is desirable. Would have to relocate to Western Michigan, near Grand Rapids and the dairies.

Facilities provided by the veterinary practice:
 Vehicle. Laptop computer and software. Basic vet equipment. 
Other Personnel :  Vet would work with farm managers, herdsmen, and employees to improve practices on the dairies. Vet would help coordinate the IVF and ET program execution on the farms but would not be directly involved in oocyte recovery or embryo implantation

 IVF and ET program in place.  
Practice Area:  Western Michigan has a typical Midwestern climate. Warm, humid summers. Winters are milder than on the plains but heavy lake effect snow is a part of life. Temperatures rarely below 0F. Grand Rapids offers cultural resources and entertainment, and excellent medical facilities. Several universities and colleges in the area. Lots of outdoor recreation opportunities: beaches, small lakes, fishing, hunting, bike trails. Good public and private schools.
