Objective:
 The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for an open (tenure/clinical track) faculty position at either Assistant/ Associate/ Full Professor levels in the Department of Department of Veterinary Preventive Medicine with responsibility for teaching and research related to infectious diseases of importance to food animal medicine. Applicants with hands-on experience in food animal medicine in the U.S. context and in fields that complement or enhance the current Department expertise are highly desired. This will result in collaborative scholarly teaching, research, and outreach focused on the dissemination of knowledge to prevent and control infectious diseases of importance to veterinary medicine. Distribution of duties will vary depending on the experience, strengths of the candidate, and ability of the candidate but is anticipated to be approximately equally divided between teaching and research. TEACHING DUTIES The substantial teaching responsibilities will include contributions to teaching food animal content in the core professional DVM curriculum. This will include, but not be limited to, contributions to the 4th year DVM clinical Preventive Veterinary Medicine clinical rotation through on-site teaching within food animal populations. RESEARCH AND SCHOLARLY DUTIES The candidate will develop a nationally recognized research program that addresses prevention and control of infectious diseases relevant to veterinary preventive medicine and the Ohio agricultural constituents. This research program is expected to complement and/or increase the breadth of existing research within the Department/ College. Candidates with the ability to effectively support and network with producer groups, practicing veterinarians, or local, state and federal agencies are desired. Tenure track faculty are expected to meet the criteria established in the college’s Research Metrics document for their level of research appointment. OUTREACH DUTIES Although there is no formal Extension appointment with this position, the successful applicant should serve as an infectious disease expert resource for internal and external constituent groups and communicate with stakeholders regularly. 
Training Required:
 - Advanced training with terminal degree in a relevant veterinary infectious disease field with demonstrated ability to teach veterinary preventive medicine principles - Relevant field experience related to the prevention and control of infectious diseases within food animal populations - Familiarity and knowledge of food animal production systems in North American contexts 
Experience Desired:
 - A DVM or equivalent degree with advanced training (MS, MPH, or PhD) is preferred; - Board certification (e.g. ACVPM, ACVM) or other training and experience in relevant areas. - Demonstrated experience teaching DVM students or providing workforce development trainings. - Experience working with producers, industry and stakeholder groups, with evidence of successfully meeting goals and collaborative outputs. - An established record of food animal infectious disease research, including but not limited to scholarly articles, peer-reviewed publications, and invited presentations. - Successful acquisition of extramural research and training grants. - Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other faculty, staff, and external stakeholders.

 Established in 1934, the Department of Veterinary Preventive Medicine was the nation’s first program established to prevent and control globally important diseases of food animals and humans. The department combines the disciplines of veterinary microbiology, epidemiology, immunology, parasitology, public health, production medicine, and clinical medicine and provides the provides the major agricultural and public health focus for the College of Veterinary Medicine. The mission of the department is the discovery and dissemination of knowledge to prevent, control, or eradicate disease; to promote sustainable agricultural productivity; and to enhance the health of animal and human populations. The mission incorporates each of the three components of teaching, research, and service. The Research Mission is the discovery of knowledge leading to the development of methods to prevent disease; insure agricultural sustainability, productivity, and efficiency; and, promote health in human and animal populations. The Service Mission is to provide professional expertise to assist in the decision-making processes of animal and human health professionals and commercial organizations, as well as local, state, national, and international organizations as they endeavor to promote the health of human and animal populations. The Teaching Mission is the education of graduate, professional, and post-professional students as well as the provision of outreach education in effective disease control, prevention, and eradication strategies to meet current and future societal needs in veterinary medicine and public health. We provide many residency programs and training opportunities related to public health, conservation, and laboratory animal medicine as well as a specialization in Veterinary Public Health within the Master of Public Health program.
