Description: Genomic testing is a newer technology that some dairy producers have embraced and others are considering. With greater than 2 million Holstein females genotyped already, opportunity exists for veterinarians to broaden the services offered to their clients. The objectives of this seminar are to (1) introduce the technology, terms, and tests to the practitioner; (2) describe how some producers are using the technology; (3) extend new information on genomics and fertility; (4) review an economic model on testing and reproductive strategies; and (5) explore how to incorporate this technology into dairy practice. This seminar will provide participants with a foundation of dairy cattle genomics relative to fertility, thereby allowing participants to engage in development of management strategies with clients to chart a course for continuous improvement of clients' herds.
