AABP RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIP
Information about the Assistantship
AABP members that are registered in a masters or doctoral program
at an accredited North American veterinary college (school), a college
with a veterinary science department, or the candidate shall be a North
American bovine practitioner and conducting a scientific research project
are eligible. Students enrolled at an accredited North American veterinary
college (school) who are pursuing a concurrent masters or doctoral degree
and are student AABP members are also eligible. Tenured faculty are
ineligible for this assistantship.
An annual sum of up to $10,000 may be awarded to a candidate or sums
thereof may be awarded to a number of candidates. The monies shall be
awarded directly to the successful research candidate(s). The
assistantship will not cover indirect costs.
Applicants must:
- Download a tempate Assistantship Word Document, and complete and save as PDF document. Name the PDF document yourname.PDF (ex. JohnSmith.PDF).
The full proposal excluding curricula vitae shall be less than 12 pages in 12 pt. Arial font, single spaced with 1 inch margins on all sides. The proposal shall include:
- Lay summary suitable for publication � maximum 200 words
- Scientific summary � maximum 300 words
- Goals and objectives of the project
- Background information an literature review
- Materials and methods
- Expected outcomes
- Detailed budget with explanation of line items
- Additional sources of funding available to support the proposed research (if applicable)
- A curriculum vitae or biographical sketch for the principal investigators and co-investigators (maximum length of 2 pages per person; see grants.nih.gov/grants/funding/2590/biosketchsample.pdf for examples)
- Upload the PDF document to the AABP Web Site.
- Complete the online application
form. Identify the name of the aformentioned PDF file in the application form.
- Evaluation criteria and scoring system.
- Signed Application Confirmation:
After an online application has been submitted, an application confirmation
form must be completed, signed and faxed to the AABP Office (334-821-9532).
This form signifies the applicant's acceptance of the conditions outlined
in the Information Document and that
space and basic facilities for carrying out the research will be provided. This Application Confirmation also provides the AABP Office with the correct payment information in the event that the funds cannot be paid directly to the applicant.
- Notification: Candidates will be notified of the
Committee's decision by July 1.
- Progress Reports:
With the initial application, the candidate shall report on any work
initiated or completed that is related to the proposal. The recipient
shall report on work plans and the extent to which objectives were
achieved six months after the first award payment. Upon receipt of
the mid-term progress report, the second payment shall be made. The
recipient shall submit a final report upon completion of the research
project. The report should be written in a format for publication
in the Bovine Practitioner or Proceedings. The recipient may be requested
to present their research data at the annual AABP conference.
