Objective:

East River Genetic Services (ERGS) has an immediate opening for an Elite Youngstock Veterinarian in the Northwest Iowa – Southeast South Dakota region. ERGS is a specialized genetic services provider for some of the world’s leading suppliers of bovine genetics. The primary functions of ERGS include recipient services, embryo transfer, youngstock raising, and donor housing. This position will primarily be responsible for developing, growing, and leading the baby calf and dairy youngstock programs of ERGS. Caring for some of the world’s best dairy genetics, with the opportunity to grow and develop into other areas of the organization. |
Training Required:

Requirements:
DVM degree -
Licensed or ability to become licensed in Iowa and South Dakota -
Experience in dairy calf raising -
Strong background or interest in pathology, immunology, and scientific inquiry -
Valid Driver’s License -
Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills -
Self-starter and self-motivating -
Ability to communicate in Spanish or the willingness to learn quickly -
Familiarity with Dairy Comp 305 software -
Ability to troubleshoot complex and multifaceted problems -
Excellent work ethic and organizational skills with a strong interest in continuous improvement -
Patience and desire for raising baby calves and dairy youngstock -
Professionalism in communication with clients and service providers -

Responsibilities:
Develop and grow an elite calf care program -
Daily oversight of youngstock health from baby calf to pregnant heifer stage with primary focus being on the baby calf program -
Consult and lead within the calf care team to deliver positive results -
Development, implementation, and oversight of SOPs and protocols related to calf health, calf care, biosecurity, and animal handling -
Development, implementation, and oversight of client youngstock health reports -
Work alongside of nutritionist in development and optimization of calf feeding program -
Troubleshoot calf health issues as they arise including using lab diagnostics -
Perform health testing and physical exams required for client animal movement -
Perform environmental diagnostic and equipment cleanliness reviews -
Communicate closely with clients and their representatives regarding calf health, regulatory testing, and protocol development
