Job Description:
 

Objective:
 The University of Minnesota, College of Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Population Medicine Department wishes to fill a year‐round 75% time contract track Instructor or Assistant Professor faculty position in Ruminant Production Medicine. This position is planned as a long‐term full-time position in which the candidate will grow into an expanded role as the college implements the 2+2 program with South Dakota State University starting in fall 2023. Training Required:
 Candidates must have a DVM, VMD, or equivalent foreign degree. The candidate must be eligible for licensure in veterinary medicine in the state of Minnesota (http://www.vetmed.state.mn.us/). 
Experience Desired:
 The candidate must have a keen interest in teaching DVM students. Practical clinical and field experience for at least 1 year in bovine veterinary medicine, either in private practice or in an academic ambulatory practice, is required. Teaching areas of interest must include a strong desire to teach both individual animal and herd level production medicine in dairy, beef, and small ruminants. Experience with small ruminants is preferred but not required, though willingness to learn small ruminant medicine is required. The candidate must have excellent communication and presentation skills and the potential for synergy with existing ruminant faculty, teaching collaborators, and the College and Department’s strategic goals and plans. 
Salary:
 The final rank and terms of the appointment will depend on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate consistent with collegiate and University policies.

Other Personnel :  There are at least 8 other DVM faculty within the ruminant group at CVM involved in the teaching of veterinary students and collaborations with several other DVM's in other colleges and production systems.  
Practice strengths and emphasis of the business:
 The position will require active participation in clinical teaching of both individual animal ruminant medicine and production medicine in the final year, as well as other discipline‐related material throughout the DVM curriculum (physical exam and palpation laboratories as an example). The person in this position will have the opportunity to play a significant role in the development and implementation of teaching programs at the college’s John Fetrow Dairy Education Center (https://vetmed.umn.edu/centers‐programs/dairy‐education‐center), and other teaching and service collaborations with commercial dairy, beef and small ruminant producers.
