Job Description:
 

Objective:
 The Food Animal Health and Management Program in the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking applicants for a funded 19-month non-thesis Master of Food Animal Medicine (MFAM) graduate degree. The program is designed for veterinarians seeking additional training in the production livestock industry and will provide instruction in the investigation and evaluation of livestock disease and production problems in beef and/or dairy herds. The MFAM program involves course work, clinical field work, a summer externship at a livestock production unit or corporate research facility, and the design and completion of an original research project. Course work will include epidemiology, biostatistics, infectious diseases, economics, and clinical study design. A significant portion of the MFAM student’s time will be spent in veterinary clinical work in the areas of beef and dairy production medicine.  
Training Required:
 Candidates must either be a graduate of an AVMA-accredited college of veterinary medicine, or be certified by the Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates (ECFVG). 
Experience Desired:
 Both experienced practitioners and new graduates are encouraged to apply. The deadline for applications is May 1, 2022. In addition to the graduate school application, candidates must also submit a separate supplemental information form (https://vet.uga.edu/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/MFAM-Supplemental-Info-Form.pdf ) describing their educational background and relevant experiences in food animal medicine along with an essay describing their professional goals and motivation for pursuing the MFAM degree. Applications will be reviewed as they are received and a final decision on acceptance will be made by May 15, 2022.  
Salary:
 A graduate assistantship will be provided for the successful candidate and tuition is reduced to $25/semester plus required administrative fees. Both the assistantship and tuition reduction are available during the entire program, provided the minimum academic requirements of the program are met each semester.

 UGA's Veterinary Teaching Hospital is a spacious, state-of-the-art facility.  
Other Personnel :  There are eight faculty members in the Food Animal Health and Management Program (FAHMP). Board-certified specialties represented in the group include Large Animal Internal Medicine, Preventive Veterinary Medicine, and Theriogenology. Practice strengths and emphasis of the business:
 The primary focus of the program is on bovine production medicine, although there are also opportunities to get some exposure to swine and small ruminants.  
Practice Area:  The University of Georgia is located in Athens, Georgia, which is approximately 70 miles east of Atlanta. Athens is a vibrant city of approximately 100,000 residents with an active local music scene. The North Georgia mountains and the historic coastal city of Savannah are only a couple hours away.
