Job Description:
 

Objective:
 The College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University (ISU CVM) has an opening for a Postdoctoral Associate in the Veterinary Field Services Unit in Ambulatory Medicine within the department of Veterinary Diagnostic and Production Animal Medicine (VDPAM). Emphasis of this position will be on dairy medicine, with exposure to other food animal species. The primary roles of this position are to provide veterinary care to the unit’s clientele, to assist in the instruction of veterinary students within the department’s professional program, and conduct applied research (if desired). Responsibilities will include being on-call and providing emergency services. This position will allow the individual to pursue board certification as a Dairy Diplomate with the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP) and/or a graduate degree (MS or PhD). Training Required:
 Required Education and Experience - Graduation from an AVMA accredited veterinary college by June 15, 2021 - Veterinary licensure or eligibility for licensure in the State of Iowa - Category II veterinary accreditation under the USDA National Veterinary Accreditation Program or eligibility for accreditation by the USDA - Valid driver’s license - Demonstrated focus on bovine medicine Required Licensure(s)/Certification(s): State of Iowa Veterinary License and Category II veterinary accreditation under the USDA National Veterinary Accreditation Program or eligibility for accreditation by the USDA on or before the first day of employment.  
Experience Desired:
 Preferred Education and Experience - Two plus years bovine practice or related experience

Facilities provided by the veterinary practice:
 ISU Veterinary Field Services is a 100% ambulatory service. We provide all the equipment necessary to practice ambulatory medicine.  
Other Personnel :  The practice has staffed by 3.5 full time equivalent faculty veterinarians and two post-doctoral associates in ABVP training programs. In addition, our department faculty members provide service in the food animal hospital and the veterinary diagnostic laboratory, so there is tremendous support for advanced medical care and diagnostic medicine. We also have a training program in clinical pharmacology focusing on drug stewardship, residue prevention, and pain control.  
Practice strengths and emphasis of the business:
 VDPAM and Veterinary Field Services mission is to be a leader in education and research in production animal medicine. We have species focused production medicine specialists for all food animal species groups, probably the most diverse of all veterinary colleges in the US. The primary purpose of our ambulatory service is to provide veterinary care to food animal clients in our area and to train 4th year veterinary students in FA ambulatory medicine. Within that service, we provide regular herd health services to dairy, beef, swine, and poultry units.  
Practice Area:  Veterinary Field Services covers a radius of 45 miles from our location in central IA. This position is also expected to assist with dairy herd health clients ranging from 250-6000 head.
