Job Description:
 

Objective:
 The College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University (ISU CVM) has an opening for a Postdoctoral Associate in the Veterinary Field Services Unit in Ambulatory Medicine within the department of Veterinary Diagnostic and Production Animal Medicine (VDPAM). Emphasis of this position will be on dairy medicine, with exposure to other food animal species. The primary roles of this position are to provide veterinary care to the unitís clientele, conduct applied research, and to assist in the instruction of veterinary students within the departmentís professional program. Responsibilities will include being on-call and providing emergency services. This position will allow the individual to pursue board certification as a Dairy or Food Animal Diplomate with the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP) and/or a graduate degree (MS or PhD). The person in this position will gain production medicine-based clinical and applied research experience, while working with clients of the ISU Veterinary Field Services unit, ISU Food Animal and Camelid Hospital, and the ISU Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory. The person(s) selected for this position will be formally and informally trained in the latest tools and techniques in applied research processes and approaches specific to bovine medicine, and will learn to conduct field investigations of disease outbreaks to support veterinarians and producers in the United States. Training Required:
 -Graduation from an AVMA accredited veterinary college by June 15, 2021 -Veterinary licensure or eligibility for licensure in the State of Iowa -Category II veterinary accreditation under the USDA National Veterinary Accreditation Program or eligibility for accreditation by the USDA -Valid driverís license  
Experience Desired:
 Graduation by June 15, 2021.  
Salary:

Facilities provided by the veterinary practice:
 ISU VFS provides all the equipment necessary to practice. Our ambulatory unit is separate from our teaching hospital, but there is access to the VTH for referral of cases and for acquiring advanced clinical training, if desired.  
Other Personnel :  We have 2.5 full time equivalent faculty members assigned to the VFS unit plus other species specialists who provide clinical duty through the unit. There are currently two post-docs on staff participating in ABVP residency training. Our department has 55 faculty members in all areas of production animal medicine, ranging from clinical medicine, preventative medicine, epidemiology, clinical pharmacology, to diagnostic medicine. This allows us to cater to the individual candidates training wishes.  
Practice strengths and emphasis of the business:
 ISU VFS is a full service veterinary practice housed with a veterinary teaching setting. Our primary role is to teach clinical year veterinary students in the food animal medicine program while providing client services to area farms. We have a wide array of types of farms in all species. Additionally, we have species specialist in all areas of production animal medicine focusing on herd health issues and a separate theriogenology service.
