Job Description:

Objective:
We are currently seeking to add a full-time “cow vet” to our team. Our field work is seasonal in nature, however, there is a good balance between clinical duties (preg-checking by U/S, bull breeding soundness evaluations, feedlot exams/surgeries, etc.) and office duties (consulting, data analysis, research, teaching, etc.). We focus largely on preventive medicine, consulting, and crew training and have limited after-hours individual animal emergencies. We truly have the best of all worlds; progressive clients, LOTS of cattle, and quality of life. Please visit our website and click on "Career Opportunities" under the "About" tab to learn more about the position. Interested candidates should submit a resume/CV and 1-page cover letter to vahs@vahs.net by January 15th, 2026. A start date anytime between January and March is available and may be determined by the successful candidate.
Training Required:
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree (DVM, VMD, or equivalent) from an accredited veterinary school. Eligibility for licensure through the Alberta Veterinary Medical Association. Excellent cattle handling skills and a keen interest in beef production, .
Experience Desired:
This position is ideal for someone who has honed their clinical skills and is eager to gain exposure to the data analysis and consulting side of cow-calf and/or feedlot production medicine. There is also ample opportunity to become involved in field research and teaching. We have a very collaborative team with lots of great mentors in the practice. Post-graduate training and/or board certification are considered assets, but certainly not required. Again, we have lots of great mentorship opportunities based on your primary interests.
Salary:
 Negotiable, based on experience.
Benefits:
Our practice offers a competitive salary with bonuses and profit-sharing structure, mentorship, cell phone allowance, fully equipped truck and vet box, health/dental/vision benefits, continuing education allowance and professional dues. Veterinarians are granted 3 weeks paid vacation, 1 week for continuing education, and 1-week sick leave. We share on-call and holiday duties, ensuring that everyone receives personal time off.

Practice strengths and emphasis of the business:
If you are drawn to cattle country and the true western lifestyle, Alberta, Canada is the place to be! Veterinary Agri-Health Services, Ltd. (VAHS) was founded in 1993 in southern Alberta and currently services progressive cow-calf and feedlot operations across all four western provinces. Though we are 100% beef cattle focused there are several areas to specialize in and lots of variety to our day. Our mission is to provide client-focused professional services and evidence-based expertise in beef cattle health and welfare, production medicine, field research, and veterinary education. We have built our practice on excellent customer service, and as a result have very strong relationships with our clients. We consider many of them close friends and are frequently invited to their brandings, cattle drives, and bull sales. Our clients have excellent facilities, and all herd and individual animal work is performed on site at their ranches and feedlots. Our team is strongly encouraged to become active in industry roles (AABP, AVC, WCABP, ABVMA, ABVTA, etc.) and volunteer within the community (4-H, Ag societies, etc.) We strive for excellent communication and conduct brief “tailgate” meetings, vet team strategy meetings, and rounds on a bi-weekly basis, as well as quarterly staff meetings with breakfast. We enjoy teaching and host student rotations through the University of Calgary Distributed Teaching Hospital. We also deliver an Advanced Beef Production Medicine rotation each July for ten 4th year veterinary students from all over North America. VAHS hosts numerous staff events each year including a summer party, Christmas party, and river float. We also enter a team in the local ranch rodeo competition. Please check out our website (www.vahs.net) and our Facebook page (@VeterinaryAgriHealthServices) to learn more about us, our beautiful landscapes, and our practice culture.
