Internship (1 position) & Residency (1 position) available in Food Animal Reproduction & Medicine at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine.
Our program is focused on training graduate veterinarians for a career in preventative food animal medicine.
The internship is a 1-year program and the residency is a 3-year program (2-year clinical program plus a 1-year combined Master's degree in Preventative Veterinary Medicine).
Mentorship is provided throughout the program by faculty, while an opportunity to gain independence is the goal to be achieved.
Fundamental development of clinical skills, medicine, surgery, field necropsy, infectious disease control and prevention is the program’s cornerstone.
Training Required:
DVM degree or equivalent. Must be fluent in English. Must have a valid US driver's license.
Experience Desired:
Entry-level, post-DVM degree. Experience (<1y) with production animal medicine.

Facilities provided by the veterinary practice:
House officers will be provided a shared office space with a desktop computer available for program use.
Other Personnel :
The FARMS service includes 5 faculty members, 3 house officers, 1 full-time technician and 1 full-time office staff member.
Practice strengths and emphasis of the business:
The breakdown of FARMS annual farm visits is: 56% dairy (75% caseload), 22% small ruminant (7% caseload), 16% beef (15% caseload), and 6% production swine (3% caseload). Services provided all take place on-farm.
The resident/intern will develop broad clinical skills, including on-farm individual animal medicine for all species covered by our service, as well as experience with clinical instruction of DVM students. Depending on their interests, there is an
opportunity for the resident or intern to focus on development of skills in dairy production medicine (including on-farm investigation of health and production issues, records analysis, reproductive performance, calf management, and on-farm training of personnel), small ruminant production medicine (including flock management & preventive health, and management of animals enrolled in the annual UF/IFAS Small Ruminant Ram and Buck Tests from May-September), or beef cattle production medicine (including reproductive management and
preventive health programs).
