Facilities provided by the veterinary practice:
We are a primarily mobile practice with a service radius of approximately 30 miles from our office in Martinsburg. Our centrally located office houses a small exam/surgery room with capabilities to see our more easily transported clientele (small ruminants, calves, poultry, etc.) To perform farm calls, each doctor is provided with a vehicle and stocked with all the necessary medical equipment. Portable ultrasound machines are available for use. Our in-house laboratory includes a milk culture lab, sensitivity testing, fecal egg counts, and Idexx blood chemistry analysis. A close relationship is maintained with Penn State Animal Diagnostic Laboratory for pathological testing.
Other Personnel :
We have a full-time office manager, a part-time business manager, a full-time veterinary technician, and several part-time assistants.
Practice strengths and emphasis of the business:
Our clientele is comprised of 80% dairy with the remainder being small ruminant, swine, equine, camelids, beef, and cervidae. Due to the concentration of farms in our area, we have minimal windshield time, which allows us to spend more time doing the job we love. We provide food animal reproductive exams, herd health preventative medicine, as well as individual sick animal medicine and surgery. Embryo transfer and breeding soundness are additional growing areas of service that we have begun to offer.
Practice Area:
Our practice is in a concentrated dairy area in south central Pennsylvania called Morrison's Cove. Our dairy clientele range in size from 20 cow tie stall barns to larger-scale farms with herds of 2,000 cows. We are located two hours east of Pittsburgh, one hour south of Penn State, and 20 miles south of Altoona. It is a beautiful area, surrounded by mountains, with lots of outdoor recreation opportunities, and cultural opportunities are within an hour's drive to Altoona, Johnstown, or State College.
