Job Description:
 

Objective:
 Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine (AUCVM) is offering a 12-month farm animal hospital internship with a food and fiber animal focus. The program is designed to provide the mentorship and hands-on experience to prepare the individual for private practice or further residency training and board certification in internal medicine, theriogenology, or practitioner boards. The intern will gain knowledge and skills in management of medical and surgical cases, client communication, and use of appropriate diagnostic tests. The intern will be assigned clinical duty in the FA hospital and theriogenology services and is expected to provide care to both primary and referral patients. Interested individuals may request to rotate through other rotations to enhance the breadth of the internship (including equine/field services). These additional rotations will be discussed once the intern has completed 4 months of the internship. •Management of beef, small ruminants, camelid, and swine medicine, surgery, theriogenology, and production medicine. •Participation in case management and daily clinical rounds. •Quarterly feedback and evaluation from a dedicated mentor. •Active participation in weekly journal clubs for food animal and equine medicine. •Supervised support by a senior veterinarian in the clinic and for on-call emergencies. •On-call every 4th week with a board-certified veterinarian. On-call includes in-hospital and ambulatory coverage.  
Training Required:
 All applicants must hold a DVM or equivalent degree. All applicants must have a valid and current driver’s license. If a candidate is accepted into an internship or residency program at AU-CVM, all requirements must be met to hold and maintain a faculty license in the State of Alabama.

Facilities provided by the veterinary practice:
 The Vaughan Large Animal Hospital is a state-of-the-art facility designed to provide specialized care and comprehensive medical, surgical, and theriogenology services for food animal species throughout Alabama and surrounding states. Handling facilities and equipment include stalls with individual head catches, tilt tables, manual and hydraulic chutes, standing and recumbent surgery (local, TIVA, and general anesthesia capabilities), as well as hospitalization of cases requiring IV therapy and intense nursing care.  
Other Personnel :  AUCVM farm animal and theriogenology services are currently comprised of 7 board-certified diplomates available for support of the internship training program.  
Practice strengths and emphasis of the business:
 Types of cases seen include herd health consultation, processing (castration, dehorning, vaccination, etc.), foot trimming and lameness evaluation, breeding soundness examination, pregnancy diagnosis, dystocias, elective and emergent surgical procedures, and individual sick animal management. Our clinicians, residents, interns, technicians, staff, and senior veterinary students work collaboratively to provide 24-hour, high-quality care for both production herds and individual animal patients. 
Practice Area:  Auburn is conveniently located within driving distance to Atlanta, GA and Montgomery, AL. There are many hiking and outdoor activities located near to Auburn.
